Maarten Kalis is a Bachelor of Industrial Product Design and graduated with honor from the Rotterdam University in 2009.
During his studies he executed several design projects with sustainability as a focus point. After seeing the documentary Waste equals Food in 2007, he was inspired by and excited about the “Cradle to Cradle” concept. Maarten also has a keen interest in products designed for hiking, camping and survival. For his graduation project he combined sustainability with Outdoor. He worked at the head-office of Campingaz in Lyon, France, where he designed a fuel-efficient cooking kit for backpackers. This will enter the market in 2011.
Maarten Kalis graduated from the study of mechanical engineering in 2002. After this he worked for several years as a service engineer for multiple companies. This resulted in a broad technical experience in the fields of problem-solving, mechanical and electrical systems.
Whilst studying at Rotterdam University, Maarten worked freelance for Wandschappen, a company that develops and produces art and design products. His expertise was looking into the feasibility of the art and design products.
Maarten is a technical and innovative designer with a good understanding of concepts and materials. His strength lies in thinking up new and innovative solutions, for sustainable and environmental problems.
